Keskuspuisto cups
While drinking my morning coffee I look out the window and see the crooked dead standing trees on the edge of Helsinki Central Park beside the symmetrically placed buildings. Maybe my home is here. The starting point of the Keskuspuisto cups was finding my own place in Helsinki. The contrast of the different shapes around my home; Laakso district and Helsinki Central park area have been the inspiration for these cups from which you can drink your morning coffee without burning your fingers. The cups are made of white porcelain using a solid casting technique and a clear glaze for finishing. The cup pair consists of a vertical and a horizontal cup with the same measurements and the same inner shape. Central park cups are at their best when drinking hot drinks from them as the shape also works as a thermal insulator: when holding the cup, there is air between the hand and the cup so it can be held in the hand even though it doesn’t have a handle.
