Pavilion´s Party
Hietaranta´s old pavilion was built next to Hietaranta beach, which was originally built for working class. It was the first of its kind in Finland. Built by Gunnar Taucher in 1930, it served as a cafe and changing cabinet until the 2010´s when new pavilion was built. The deserted building glows with nostalgia from all the decades it has seen. Since the advent of the new pavilion, the old one has been under threat of demolition. I wanted to pay tribute to Taucher´s pavilion with a serving set designed for a Pavilion Party; an imaginary event organized in the old pavilion. The serving set includes a decanter for juice or wine, small wiggly cups that serve also as table decorations, and a large serving bowl for foods like pastries and fruits.
As this project went on the future of old pavilion has also moved on. Luckily, local residents in the Töölö area association have taken the pavilion´s renovation under its wings. The building has gotten a new life as Töölö´s Kylätalo, or village house, which is a space for organizing hobbies and events. The pavilion continues to serve a purpose for local people and especially for the working class.
